BED BUGS BITING YOU?

BED BUGS, BED BUG EXTERMINATION

Hawaii is known for its breathtaking landscapes and vibrant culture, making it a sought-after destination for both tourists and residents. However, alongside this beauty, bed bugs have become an unwelcome presence. These small, nocturnal pests are increasingly concerning, especially for hotels and homes. Understanding the impact of bed bugs and the need for effective pest control is essential for ensuring health and comfort across the islands.

BED BUGS

WHEN IT COMES TO BED BUGS,

WE MAKE SURE THEY NEVER HAVE A GOOD NIGHT

Bed bug infestations in Hawaii have seen a sharp increase in recent years. According to a survey conducted by the National Pest Management Association, 80% of pest control professionals reported dealing with bed bugs in more than one property in 2022. The warm, humid climate of Hawaii creates an ideal environment for these pests, facilitating rapid population growth.

Bed bugs are notoriously good at hiding, often squeezing into tiny cracks and crevices. They hitch rides on luggage, clothing, and secondhand furniture, making it easy for them to spread across hotels, resorts, and homes throughout the islands. In Hawaii, this is especially problematic due to the high volume of travelers each year, with over 10 million visitors recorded in 2019.

Signs of Bed Bug Infestation

Detecting a bed bug infestation early is the key to effective control. Adult bed bugs are roughly the size of an apple seed, oval in shape, and can vary from light brown to a deep reddish-brown based on their feeding status. They are most active at night, feeding on the blood of sleeping hosts.

Signs to watch for include:

  • Bites: Often appearing as small, itchy welts that cluster in a line on the skin.

  • Fecal Stains: Dark spots on bedding or furniture, which can signal bed bug presence.

  • Eggs: Tiny, white eggs that can often be found in seams of mattresses or joints of furniture.

Recognizing these signs promptly is essential for timely intervention.

TOUGHER THAN TERMITES

Delaying treatment can escalate costs dramatically. In extreme cases, homes can suffer so much damage that they become unsafe. Additionally, homes with histories of termite issues experience drops in resale value. Potential buyers may be reluctant to invest in a property marked by pest damage, which can further complicate your financial situation.

DON'T WAIT, TILL IT'S TOO LATE

Justin Duny Licensed & Certified Termite Specialist Says:

Termites can be a serious problem for homeowners here in Hawaii.  "Termites can cause such extensive damage to properties, that it can cause partial or total collapse. If you're fortunate enough to have never dealt with termites consider yourself lucky." - Justin Duny

Termites can cause significant damage to homes, with an estimated cost of $5 billion to $10 billion per year. To protect investment, it's important take steps to prevent termite infestations. In fact, some states require termite protection on new homes as part of their building codes. For example, all homes in Hawaii are required to have some form of termite protection.
