The story goes that they stumbled upon the vast and beautiful Ewa plains and decided to mark the west boundary of the new moku by throwing a stone towards the Waianae mountain range. Their aim was to encompass as much land as possible within the boundary. And thus, Ewa got its name. Sadly it's said to be believed that they lost it. Within the origin of the story of the name "Ewa". The story suggests that the area was named after a stone that was difficult to find or thrown crookedly. Thankfully the stone was said to finally be discovered at Pili o Kahe, near the Nānākuli Stream, where the boundary between Ewa and Waianae was marked.
